Prompt Design at GTEC’s Semiconductor Bootcamp, and a Career Fair on the Same Campus

On 17 September 2026 Jungsoo Kim taught Prompt Design to graduates in GTEC’s Youth Leap semiconductor bootcamp, a full day on working documents, as the Siheung Career Fair filled the campus outside.

The bootcamp

On 17 September 2026 Jungsoo Kim taught the first of two full-day sessions on Prompt Design at Gyeonggi University of Science and Technology (GTEC), as part of the university’s Youth Leap semiconductor bootcamp for advanced talent (청년도약 인재양성 반도체분야 첨단인재형 부트캠프).

The bootcamp is a Youth Leap talent program (청년도약 인재양성). It runs for about eight weeks, from 31 August to 23 October 2026, in person on the GTEC campus, Monday to Friday from nine in the morning to six in the evening. Thirty-four participants took part, all of them young people who are out of work, including recent and imminent graduates. The curriculum moves through beginner, intermediate, and advanced stages of semiconductor work, and at the end participants are matched for hiring with about ninety participating companies. This cohort is made up of graduates of GTEC’s Department of Mechanical Engineering preparing to move into the semiconductor industry.

Kim’s part of the program is Prompt Design, taught in two sessions, on 17 September and 1 October, each running from ten in the morning to seven in the evening.

A day of prompts for working documents

The method is the one Kim teaches in his general education course AI Prompt Design for Problem Solving, introduced in an earlier post and the subject of a promotional video released three days before this session. The difference is the material. Undergraduates practice on assignments and presentations. The bootcamp participants are weeks away from their first engineering jobs, and one of the exercises on screen that day was the paperwork of those jobs: handover tables and readiness reports.

Each participant sat at a monitor with ChatGPT open. The sequence the course teaches is the same whatever the document. Define the problem before asking. Decide who the document is for and what it has to do. Give the AI the context it cannot guess. Fix the format. Check what comes back against what the reader actually needs.

Course materials for both sessions are published in the Lectures section of this site at /lectures/bootcamp-2026/, on the same page format as the semester courses, with one row for each of the two days. No account is needed to read or download them.

A career fair on the same campus

While the bootcamp worked indoors, the campus outside belonged to the 2026 Siheung Career Fair (2026 시흥시 진로박람회), hosted by the City of Siheung from half past nine in the morning to four in the afternoon under the slogan “Flight — Destination: My Dream.” Rows of white marquees stood in front of the buildings across from the athletic field, and each one held a job to try: drone pilot, marine industry specialist, eco-friendly craftsperson, upcycling artisan. Teenagers crowded every booth.

Kim found it a good sight. Two groups were on the same campus on the same day. Outside were students still deciding what they might become, trying on jobs one tent at a time. Inside were graduates who had decided, and were spending a day learning to ask an AI the right question so that the first weeks of those jobs would go well. It is the same question at two ages, and the same campus was holding both.
